What scares me the most about these pictures is that, bangs aside, my hair pretty much looks the same. I'm not sure what that says about my sense of style now. Or then.

After high school I headed to Hickory, NC to attend Lenoir-Rhyne College, which is where I met my husband, John. I graduated in '93 with a degree in English. I taught high school English for several years in North Carolina and Virginia, left the profession to work as the communications manager at the Fredericksburg (VA) Chamber of Commerce, then quit to stay home when our daughter, Emily, was born in 2001. I worked as a freelance writer for several years until our son, Johnny, was born in 2008. We've lived right outside Ocean City, Maryland for the past 5 years or so, when we relocated for my husband's job. He's a PGA golf professional. We're just 5 miles from the Atlantic Ocean, so we spend our summers hanging out at the beach. The rest of the year I dream of writing the Great American Novel. Well, mostly I dream about my Oprah interview, because I'm pretty sure writing a Great American Novel is a lot of work. So for now my job is apparently "cleaning," according to something Emily wrote at school. Most days that seems pretty accurate, but I'm not sure I would have it any other way. We won't be at the reunion since the school year doesn't finish until the middle of June, but if you ever make it out here to the beach, look us up!
